The White House unveiled a new initiative to promote U.S. AI technologies abroad, amid rising competition globally.
Dubbed the Tech-Corps, the initiative was unveiled last week at the India AI Impact Summit by Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
The program will operate under the umbrella of the Peace Corps, which sends American volunteers abroad to support local development projects.
Under the new model, the Tech Corps will recruit engineers and STEM graduates to help partner countries adopt U.S.-developed AI systems.
According to the program's newly launched website, Tech Corps volunteers will promote AI to solve “real-world grassroots problems” in key sectors, including agriculture, education, health and energy.
Volunteers will be assigned to countries participating in the American AI Exports Program, created by the Trump administration last July to maintain U.S. leadership in advanced technologies.

While a full list of participating countries has not been disclosed, India is expected to be among them, with the Commerce Department welcoming its involvement earlier this month.
Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit, Kratsios said the initiative will promote AI adoption in developing nations, and “provide last-mile support in deploying powerful AI applications for enhanced public services.”
“In everything from energy and education, to manufacturing and medicine, to transportation and agriculture, I am confident that the American AI stack can be key to unlocking new economic and social benefits for your people,” he added.
The launch comes as part of broader U.S. efforts to hold firm in the global AI race, particularly in light of growing competition from China, its main AI competitor.
In addition to the Tech Corps, the White House also unveiled a National Champions Initiative at the India AI summit, designed to integrate leading foreign AI companies' technologies into customized American AI export stacks.
“We recognize that partners need the chance to build their native technology industries and believe facilitating this will be a critical part of the exports program,” Kratsios said in his statement.
Kratsios also outlined plans to help partner nations overcome financing barriers associated with importing U.S. AI infrastructure, potentially using institutions such as the World Bank, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.
