OpenAI、インド向け新イニシアチブ「OpenAI for India」を発表
2026年デリーでの「India AI Impact Summit」において、OpenAIは「OpenAI for India」の開始を発表した。これは、世界最大の民主主義国であるインドにおいて、AIへのアクセスを拡大し、その経済的・社会的利益を解き放つための全国的なイニシアチブであり、タタ・グループを筆頭とする現地の主要パートナーと連携する。インドでは既に学生、教師、開発者、起業家など週間1億人以上がChatGPTを利用しており、この勢いを基盤としている。
本イニシアチブの主要な柱は以下の四点である。
第一に、インドの主権的AIインフラ基盤の構築である。OpenAIはグローバル計画「Stargate」の一環として、タタ・グループと提携し、データレジデンシー（データ所在地）、セキュリティ、長期的な国内能力を考慮した現地のAI対応データセンター容量を開発する。OpenAIはタタ・コンサルタンシー・サービスのデータセンター事業「HyperVault」の最初の顧客となり、初期100メガワットから、将来的には1ギガワットまで拡大する可能性がある。これにより、OpenAIの最先端モデルをインド国内で安全に低遅延で稼働させ、重要任務や政府の業務におけるデータ規制やコンプライアンス要件を満たすことが可能となる。
第二に、タタ・エコシステムおよびその他企業における変革の推進である。両社は戦略的企業連携も発表し、AIネイティブな変革を全球規模で加速する。タタ・グループは今後数年かけて数十万人のTCS従業員から始め、グループ全体にChatGPT Enterpriseを導入する計画であり、世界最大規模の企業向けAI展開の一つとなる。また、TCSはOpenAIのCodexを活用し、チーム横断的なAIネイティブなソフトウェア開発を標準化する意向だ。これは、JioHotstar、Eternal、Pine Labs、Cars24、HCLTech、PhonePe、CRED、MakeMyTripなど、インドの他の主要企業との既存連携を補強するものである。
第三に、認証制度と教育課程開発を通じた人材育成と教育の推進である。OpenAIはインドでの「OpenAI Certifications」を拡大し、TCSがアメリカ以外では初の参加組織となる。この認証は、職種や業界を超えて応用可能な実践的AIスキルの習得を専門家に支援するものだ。さらに、教育機関との連携も発表し、10万以上の「ChatGPT Edu」ライセンスを提供する。提携先は、インド経営大学院アーメダバード校、全インド医学大学院（ニューデリー）、マニパル高等教育アカデミー、石油エネルギー研究大学などであり、学生に実践的な技能を習得させることを目指す。

Loading…ShareToday at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi, we’re launching OpenAI for India, a nationwide initiative with leading Indian partners to expand access to AI and unlock its economic and societal benefits in the world’s largest democracy.
As of this month, India is home to more than 100 million weekly ChatGPT users, from students and teachers to developers and entrepreneurs. OpenAI for India builds on that momentum, working with leading partners—beginning with Tata Group—to build sovereign AI capabilities, accelerate enterprise adoption, invest in workforce upskilling, and strengthen India’s thriving AI ecosystem.
Laying the foundation for India’s sovereign AI infrastructure
As part of our global Stargate initiative, OpenAI and Tata Group are partnering to develop local, AI-ready data center capacity designed for data residency, security, and long-term domestic capability. OpenAI will become the first customer of Tata Consultancy Services’ HyperVault data center business, beginning with 100 megawatts of capacity and with potential to scale to 1 gigawatt over time.
This infrastructure will enable OpenAI’s most advanced models to run securely in India, delivering lower latency while meeting data residency, security, and compliance requirements for mission-critical and government workloads.
Driving enterprise transformation across the Tata ecosystem and beyond
OpenAI and Tata Group also announced a strategic enterprise collaboration to accelerate AI-native transformation at global scale. Tata Group plans to deploy ChatGPT Enterprise across its employees over the next several years, starting with hundreds of thousands of TCS employees, making it one of the largest enterprise AI deployments in the world. TCS also intends to use OpenAI’s Codex to standardize AI-native software development across teams.
This builds on recent partnerships with leading companies in India, including JioHotstar, Eternal, Pine Labs, Cars24, HCLTech, PhonePe, CRED, and MakeMyTrip.
Upskilling Indians and advancing education through certifications and curriculum development
OpenAI will expand OpenAI Certifications in India, with TCS becoming the first participating organization outside the United States. These certifications are designed to help professionals build practical AI skills that apply across roles and industries.
We have also announced education partnerships with leading institutions, providing more than 100,000 ChatGPT Edu licenses to help prepare students with workforce-relevant skills, including with:

Expanding our local presence in India
To better serve users and partners in India, OpenAI also plans to open new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru later this year, alongside its existing presence in New Delhi.
